Your exotic pet’s diet is extremely important and plays a vital roll in their long-term health. This is why one of the most important things we do at Broomfield is help to educate our clients about proper nutrition for their avian or exotic pet.
While each avian and exotic has individual diet needs, Broomfield offers consultation on the many areas of nutrition that your pet may need. Many bird owners may not realize the individual nutritional needs their pet might require, such as the missing vitamins and minerals in a “seed only” diet. On the other hand, a healthy mix of hay and vegetables for rabbits is needed, but may require a small portion of pellet feed as well.

LOOK FOR AAFCO GUIDELINES
Pet food should have a nutritional adequacy claim on its packaging that tells you the food is either “formulated to meet or exceed the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO nutritional profiles” or ” animal feeding tests using AAFCO procedures substantiate that the pet food provides complete and balanced nutrition” for the life stage of your animal. An extra layer of protection is found in pet food brands that have been through AAFCO feeding trials. Further, food that is labeled for intermittent or supplemental use should not be used long-term unless directed by a veterinarian.
